Motor Driven Power Steering
(MDPS)
The system assists you with steering the
vehicle. If the vehicle is turned off or if the
power steering system becomes
inoperative, you can still steer the vehicle,
but it requires increased steering effort.
If you notice any change in the effort
required to steer during normal vehicle
operation, we recommend that you
contact a HYUNDAI authorised repairer.
NOTICE
If the Motor Driven Power Steering
warning light and the message "Check
motor driven power steering"
illuminates on the instrument, you can
continue to steer the vehicle, but it
requires increased steering effort. We
recommend that you contact a HYUNDAI
authorised repairer and have the system
inspected as soon as possible.
Information
During normal vehicle operation:
• The steering effort may be high
immediately after pressing the Engine
Start/Stop button to the ON position.
This happens as the system performs
the MDPS system diagnostics. When
the diagnostics are completed, the
steering wheel effort returns to its
normal condition.
• When the battery voltage is low, you
may have to use more effort to steer.
This is a temporary condition and
returns to normal condition after
charging the battery.
• A click noise may be heard from the
MDPS relay after the Engine Start/Stop
button is in the ON or OFF position.
• Motor noise may be heard when the
vehicle is at a stop or driving at low
speeds.
• When you operate the steering wheel in
low temperatures, abnormal noise may
occur. When the temperature rises, the
noise disappears.
• When an error is detected from MDPS,
the steering effort assist function is not
activated. Instrument cluster warning
lights may illuminate or the steering
effort may be high. If these symptoms
occur, drive the vehicle to a safe
location as soon as possible. We
recommend that your vehicle be
inspected by a HYUNDAI authorised
repairer as soon as possible.
