Hoist Brake Adjustments
Occasionally you might need to adjust the secondary mechanical brake to alleviate noise that could
occur. Perform the following procedure to adjust the secondary brake.
1:
Remove the motor cover to gain access to the brake.
2:
With the cover removed, loosen the locknut on the gearbox shaft until the bronze bearing and
belleville washers spin with a small amount of finger pressure.
3:
Run the hoist UP approximately two freet so that the secondary brake is engaged.
4:
Tighten the locknut to 22.5 Nm (200 in/lb) with a torque wrench.
5:
Run the hoist back down to see if the noise is gone.
6:
If there is still noise, tighten the nut 1/8 of a turn and then run the hoist down again.
7:
Repeat steps 5-6 until the noise is gone.
CAUTION:
Loft Block Maintenance
The Vortek NXT loft block has sealed bearings and usually needs minimal maintenance, however it is
still important to inspect other components of the hardware.
1:
Verify the beam clamp bolt and nut are properly torqued at 23-27 Nm (17-20 ft/lb).
2:
Ensure the plastic covers are snapped in place.
3:
Check that the loft block is free to swing both side-to-side and up-down to a small extent.
Note:
32
Do not tighten the locknut to the point where there is no more adjustment
available.
If you are using non-ETC loft blocks, refer to the manufacturer's maintenanace or
service recommendations.
