Motor Gearbox Inspection and Maintenance Instructions

Inspection of the motor brake, mechanical brake, motor gearbox and frequency drive are required
according to the indications below. Inspection and maintenance must be performed by an ETC trained/
authorized person.

Maintenance Procedures

The following sections provide step-by-step maintenance instructions for different areas of the hoist.

Always disconnect and lock out the hoist main electrical connection from its
power supply before performing any maintenance work inside the motor
control box. Wait at least two minutes before opening the motor control box
to allow any residual energy of electrical components to dissipate.

Inspect the brake:
• Measure the brake disc thickness
• Brake disc, lining
• Measure and set working air gap
• Pressure plate
• Driver/gearing
• Pressure rings
• Vacuum up the abraded matter
• Inspect the switch contacts and change
if necessary (e.g., in case of burn-out)
Inspect the brake:
• Check for signs of wear and/or fatigue
• Look for buildup of dust around the
brake mechanism
• Inspect the screw and bolt heads for
signs of fatigue
• While running the hoist, listen for
excessive brake noise
Test the brake in both static and dynamic
conditions
Inspect the motor:
• Check rolling bearings and change if
necessary
• Replace the oil seal
• Clean the cooling air passages
• Touch up or renew the surface/
anticorrosion coating
• Check and clean the air filter
• If applicable, clean condensation drain
hole at the bottom of the fan guard
• Clean clogged bores
