4. THE MOTOR OPERATES IN AN ERRATIC
MANNER
A.Reverser "T" may be Drilled Off Center; may
not be Drilled Deep Enough, or it may Hang Up
on the Reverser Rod
I. Solution:
Disassemble
the
motor
and
examine reverser "T" on the reverser rod to
see if the hole for the valve pin is drilled on
center and deep enough to allow full ac-
ceptance of pin. If "T" is hanging up on rod,
lubricate the "T" and examine bore for flash
or examine rod for sludge deposit which
could cause "T" to stick.
B.O-rings may Fit too Tightly in Bore of Motor
Valve
-
I. Solution: Disassemble the motor valve by
removing the end plates and examining the
primary and secondary valve rods to see if
any of the O-rings show a high spot or com-
plete oversize.
C.O-rings may be too Tight in the Main Cylinder
Bore
I. Solution: Examine the large O-rings on
piston assembly for high spots or complete
oversize. Also, examine cylinder wall bore to
see if there may be dirt particles or sludge on
the walls on which the piston may be sticking.
D.Exhaust Ports may be Plugged
I. Solution: Examine the ports to see if they are
plugged or blocked and if so, clean and clear
them to allow free escape of air from the
motor.
E. Unused Parking End Plate may be Plugged
I. Solution: If motor valve has parking end
plate on both ends, check to see that the
unused park end plate is not plugged.
5. SLAMMING ACTION BY THE ARM ON ONE
SIDE OF THE SWEEP
A.This will Usually be Caused by Loss of Pressure
at One End of the Cylinder, thus Causing no
Back Pressure on Returning Swing of the Motor
I. Solution: Bad main O-ring -
could cause air
loss so if it is worn, replacement of O-ring
should solve the problem. Plugged air port -
clean port so as to allow proper air passage to
maintain proper air pressure in the cylinder.
Bad motor valve O-ring -
examine O-rings
on primary and secondary rods and replace if
worn.
6. MOTOR MAY
SWEEP "SHORT" IN ONE
DIRECTION
A.Reverser "T" may be Drilled Off Center
I. Solution:
Disassemble
the
motor
and
examine the reverser "T" on the reverser rod
to see if the hole for the valve pin is drilled
on center.
B.Defective Primary Valve Rod
I. Solution: Take the primary valve rod out of
the motor valve and examine it to see if the
rod may be sticking due to sludge or other
residue in the bore cylinder. If so, clean bore
and lubricate. Also, check for improperly
sized or worn O-rings which should be
replaced if they exist.
C.Defective Cylinder or Cylinder O-ring
I. Solution: Disassemble motor and examine
large O-rings on piston rack for wear. Also,
examine cylinder wall for sludge which
would cause piston to stick or stop short of
full travel. Also, check cylinder wall for any
defects or cracks which could stop the piston
travel.
7. WHEN THE MOTOR IS OVER-SWEEPING
(OFF THE GLASS)
A.Transmission Gear and/or Worn Gear Rack in
the Motor
I. Solution: Disassemble the motor and check
gear and rack for wear which would cause
slippage when arm reaches the end of the
stroke. If so, replace the worn parts.
B. Piston Stops may be Worn or Broken
I. Solution: Examine piston rack to see if piston
stops on the reverse rod are still the proper
length. If not, replace them.
C. The Areas of Wear may be Worn on the Arm
Pivot Points, causing the Arm to Slip on the
Shaft when Shaft Stops
I. Solution: Examine the shaft first to be sure it
is not slipping in the gear. If it is not slipping
in the gear, then examine the point when the
shaft attaches to the arm. See if the arm
driver is worn or broken, allowing the arm to
slip when the shaft reverses. If so, replace the
arm or arm driver.
DESTINATION SIGN
DESCRIPTION
The destination sign is located above the front
windshield. An optional side destination sign is
mounted on the right hand front side of the coach.
MAINTENANCE
It is recommended that the following inspections
and checks be made on a regularly scheduled basis.
(I)
Check to see if mechanis_m ru_ns f~ee_ and easy.
Crank handle on destinat10n sign, 1f 1t seems to
bind, check gears for lodgement of foreign ob-
jects.
(2) Check for loose items such as wires, _clips,
hanging tape etc. Repair or remove such items.
(3) Inspect the inside of the destination sign com-
partment. Remove dirt and foreign objects. Clean
inside of compartment well and keep door
closed.
(4)
(5)
If curtain is loose on rollers, run curtain to one
end and turn crank handle until curtain roll is
tight on roller. Run actuating mechanism through
full cycle of curtain and repeat tightening action
on opposite end of curtain.
Periodic lubrication to the mechanism is recom-
mended.
