illustrated is a suggested method for measuring flywheel
housing face squareness (deviation). The dial indicator
set is securely fastened to the crankshaft hub. Crank-
shaft rotation will then sweep the face surface. Readings
should not differ by more than .008". Ensure all crank-
shaft end play has been removed by pressing forward on
the crankshaft hub prior to each reading. Keep dial
indicator extensions short to reduce the chance of errors.
Correcting flywheel housing pilot bore eccentricity or
face squareness problems can sometimes be accomplished
by relocating the flywheel housing on the engine block.
If doubt exists regarding methods or feasibility for per-
forming this relocating, the Service Department of Motor
Coach Industries or a representative of the engine manu-
facturer should be consulted.
Crankshaft hub converter pilot diameter (Figures 13-
2F & I 3-2G) --- These illustrations suggest using an inside
micrometer for measuring the pilot diameter of the con-
verter hub.
Crankshaft hub face squareness (Figure l3-2H) -- This
