CHECKING SPEEDOMETER ON BENCH
4. Plug the calibrator power cord into a wall socket, mak-
ing sure the power supply is 60 Hz 115 V A.C.
5. Place the switch of the calibrator in the "speedometer"
position only. CAUTION: Do not select other positions
for checking speedometers. NOTE: For adjusting the
unit see previous No. 5.
The calibrator(Part No. 20-1
IO)
can be purchased from
Motor Coach Industries, Service Parts Division.
Refer to the following procedure to find the tire RPM
and MPH if unknown.
With the front wheel having normal tire air pressure and
with normal loading, the following center of wheel to
ground level radius dimension is important to calculate
RPM
(Revolutions Per Mile).
EXAMPLE: With the 21" dimension shown above, the
following formula is applied to calculate
RPM.
2l"=Radius
2 x 21 - Diameter (42") or 3' - 6")
3.14
x
Diameter (3' - 6") = Circumference ( 11')
Circumference

RPM
(480)
After the
RPM
is found, refer to the following chart to
find the
MPH
readings.
NOTE: After the speedometer is tested or calibrated to
meet the correct readings, it may be possible that defective
wheel signals are responsible for incorrect
MPH
readings.
Adjustments of the magnets at the wheel will correct this
defect. The gap between the magnet and the sensor should
be I/ 8"
+
or - I/ 16".
