vehicle and the following bench test be made.
Mount the valve with a variable air supply and a
small delivery volume. Connect an accurate gauge in
both the supply and delivery lines. Increase supply
pressure until the gauge in the delivery line equals
that of the gauge in the supply line. Close supply line
and vent delivery line and note supply pressure when
the valve closes which is indicated by the drop of
pressure at the delivery line gauge. Adjust valve if
pressure setting varies more than 5
P.S.J.
(34 kPa)
from the specified setting (which is 65 P.S.I. (448
kPa).
LEAKAGE CHECK: With supply pressure at ap-
proximately I 00 P.S.J. (690 kPa), soap the area
around the slot in the adjusting cap. No leakage is
permitted. Leakage at this point would indicate a
leaking piston O-ring or piston plug O-ring.
Vent the delivery line, and check for leakage. No
leakage is permissable. Leakage at this point would
indicate a faulty inlet valve.
If the pressure protectio~ valve does not function
as described, or leakage 1s excessive it should be
repaired with genuine parts.
REMOVING AND INSTALLING
Block and hold the vehicle by means other than air
brakes. Drain dry and wet air tanks. Disconnect all
air lines from the pressure protection valve. Loosen
valve and remove. Check and clean air lines to valve.
Mount valve securely.
DISASSEMBLY
Loosen lock nut and remove adjusting cap
(12),
then lock nut (11 ). Remove pressure regulating
spring (I). Remove piston (2) and inlet valve assem-
