OIL SEAL INSTALLATION
(DRIVE WHEELS)
PROCEDURE
Lubricate inner bearing core and insert into cup.
Place CIR Scotseal (14) Figure 15-5 squarely on edge
of the retainer seal bore. Insert the assembly tool rod
(cotter pin end) in the center hole of the hub bar.
Remove any nicks or burrs from axle housing seal
shoulder and apply generous coating of CIR Boretite,
or equivalent, to the spindle shoulder O.D. and face.
Install new wiper ring (16) refer Figure 15-5. This is
required on initial installation only, as Scotseal does
not rotate

Remove any nicks or burrs from bore of seal
retainer. Reassemble retainer to hub using standard
gasket and CIR Boretite sealant, or equivalent.
Sealant is applied to retainer face only.
Bolt CIR Hub Bar 443S to hub so that central hole
is centered. Use two flange nuts -
finger tight. Turn
wheel over. Coat the seal bore of the retainer with
CIR Boretite sealant, or equivalent. Slip CIR Seal
Adapter, 44'iS, over the rod and rest it on the seal so
that the lip of the adapter fits over the outside of the
seal. Using the striker (sliding hammer) drive the seal
into the retainer bore until it bottoms.
Remove tool and hub bar and wheel is ready to
assemble to axle. When starting wheel on the sleeve
spindle, center the wheel hub with_ spindle to avoid
damaging seal with end of sleeve spmdle. Push wheel
straight over sleeve sp_mdle until_ ID . of Scotseal
pressfits on wiper. Pre-fill hub cavity :"1th SAE-140
differential oil. Lubricate outer bearmg cone and
assemble.
Adjust bearings according to bearing
manufacturer's recommendations, and lock.
Assemble axle flange to axle using gasket (12) refer
Figure l 5-5. Use CIR Boretite sealant, or equivalent,
in stud area.

With axle flange filler held in six o'clock position,
fill hub until final level is even with hole. Insert and
tighten plug securely.

filling operation, after both wheels have been asse~-
bled and filled according to above procedure, raise
the differential oil level to proper factory recom-
mended level. Clean vent thoroughly.
NOTE: During regular inspection check lubricant
level in wheels and differential. Clean and replace
vent as required.

Cleon spindle. Remove ond

if used previously for grease.
