OPERATION
Introduction
The Z-29 Terminal makes use of the latest in solid-state tech-
nology for setting up and maintaining vital communication pa-
rameters.
Instead of using switches and jumpers (as is the
case
in
most other terminals)
,
the Z-29 uses nonvolatile mem-
ory.
This means that you can enter all the parameters through
the keyboard quickly and easily without any disassembly. This
section covers all the features you may establish in this man-
ner.
Use the SET UP key when you want to program the Terminal's
parameters. This will activate the Setup Mode. After you have
established the parameters, you can choose either to use
them on a temporary basis or to store them in the nonvolatile
memory of your Z-29 Terminal. This memory will retain your
instructions
even if the Z-29 Terminal is turned off, or unplug-
ged. Several setup procedures can be set via escape se-
quences,
more information about this feature will be found
in the
"Programming"
section
.
There is an optional hardware modification that will prevent the
Terminal operator from entering the Setup Mode. If you desire
more information, contact your local Zenith Data Systems Deal-
er.
NOTE:
Placing the Terminal in the Setup Mode puts the Z-29
Terminal in an "off line" state. It does not communicate with a
host computer until the setup mode is exited.
The Setup Mode has eight different displays that are shown
in reverse video {black on green) on the 25th line of your
screen. The displays are referred as Setup Menu A through
Setup Menu G and T. Each of these displays show the status
of various features.
