Formatting a 1.44MB Diskette

To format a 1.44MB diskette, follow these steps:
1. If necessary, log onto drive C. If you are not in the directory
containing the file FORMAT.COM, change to that
directory. For example, if FORMAT.COM is stored in a
subdirectory named DOS, type CD \DOS and press Enter.
2. Type the following and press Enter:
FORMAT A:
You see this prompt:
I n s e r t n e w d i s k e t t e f o r d r i v e A :
a n d s t r i k e E N T E R w h e n r e a d y . . .
3. Insert the diskette you want to format into drive A and
press Enter.
When the diskette is formatted, you see this message and
prompt:
F o r m a t c o m p l e t e
V o l u m e l a b e l ( 1 1 c h a r a c t e r s , E N T E R
f o r n o n e ) ?
4. Enter up to 11 characters for the volume label to be stored
on the diskette and press Enter. FORMAT displays these
messages:
1447664 bytes
1447664 bytes available
Volume Serial Number is 3944-14CA
Format another (Y/N)?
512 bytes in each allocation unit
2847 allocation units available on disk
