Library Firmware — BlueScale10.4.0-20080903F
Problem
When LTO-4 drives running firmware version
8940 or later are installed in the library, the LED
Status on the Drive Details screen always
indicates that the LED is off.
If the IBM LTO drives installed in the library are
at a firmware version earlier than 8940 and your
library firmware is at 10.4.0, you will receive
barcode mismatch error messages every time
MLM media is loaded into the drive.
When using BlueScale encryption, importing an
encryption key with a moniker greater than 32
characters from a USB storage device causes the
library to lock up. After the library reboots, the
encryption key has been added to the partition
as the decryption key.
When using BlueScale encryption, data
encrypted with a moniker greater than
32 characters cannot be recovered.

Tape Drive Firmware
If you need to determine the state of the LED use
the IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT). You can
download ITDT directly from www.ibm.com.
Once you are on IBM's web site, search for Tape
Diagnostic Tool to locate the download and the
user guide. Contact Spectra Guard Support if you
need assistance (see
page 4).
Note: Make sure you install ITDT on a server that
can access the library's tape drives.
After upgrading the library firmware to
BlueScale 10.4.0, you should upgrade your drive
firmware to version 8940 as soon as possible.
If you cannot upgrade your drive firmware
immediately, you can ignore these error messages
until after you upgrade your drive firmware, but
may need to periodically delete the messages.
You should disable encryption until after you
upgrade your drive firmware to version 8940.
