Using Dual-Port Fibre Channel LTO-4 Tape Drives
The IBM LTO-4 Fibre Channel drives currently shipping with the library
are equipped two Fibre Channel ports. To enable and use the dual ports:
Although the two ports on an LTO-4 Fibre Channel drive cannot be used
simultaneously, they can be used to provide failover capability in the event
that communication to the port currently in use is interrupted. This
failover can be can be accomplished several ways, including:
December 2008
after
Then
you upgrade to BlueScale 10.4 or later and update your LTO-4 Fibre
Channel drives...
The WWPN generated by BlueScale 10.4 or later uses the form
2n:yw:00:90:A5:00:xx:xx, where:
n = the frame number for Port A
= the frame number + 1 for Port B
y =the DBA number
w =the drive number in the DBA (1 – 4)
xx:xx = the frame id, where each x is a hexadecimal
number from 0 – F.
Note: The Spectra T200 and T380 only have one frame, so the frame number (n)
is always 1.
Change the WWPN for the ports on each drive, as follows:
For an LTO-4 Fibre Channel drive with only one port or for Port A on a
dual-port drive, change the sixth pair of hexadecimal numbers in the
WWPN to 00. (This number was previously Y0, where Y is a hexadecimal
number from 1 – F. For example, change 21:11:00:90:A5:40:xx:xx to
21:11:00:90:A5:00:xx:xx
If your LTO-4 drive has dual Fibre Channel ports, set the value for Port B
by copying the value for Port A and changing the value of the second digit in
the first pair of hexadecimal numbers from 1 to 2.
For example:
WWPN for Port A = 21:11:00:90:A5:00:xx:xx
WWPN for Port B = 22:11:00:90:A5:00:xx:xx
Your library must be using BlueScale10.4.0 or later firmware.
The LTO-4 Fibre Channel drives must be using firmware version 8940
or later (see
Updates to the LTO-4 Drive Firmware on page
If an LTO-4 Fibre Channel drive is connected to a SAN using WWPN-
based zoning or to an HBA using WWPN-based persistent binding, you
may also need to update your SAN or HBA configuration to include the
WWPN for Port B, as described in
Manually disconnect the fiber optic cable from the failed port and
connect it to the other port. You may need to reconfigure your host
software to recognize the alternate port.
