5 Operation and handling

A Quick Start Guide is provided in the packaging (case) to help you to start the device and to
set your Eagle ID which is necessary for using the pm app software.
Carefully read the Quick Start Guide and the Quick Reference Guide.
Be careful when you assemble the one wheel and the four-wheel electrode to the
telescopic rod.
Be careful when you modify the spacing of the four-wheel electrode.
Be careful when you prepare the Cu/CuSO4 solution.

5.1 Performing a Calibration

A calibration check of the potential values can be done using a Calomel (HgCl) reference
electrode.
The principle consists in measuring the potential difference between the electrode to be
checked (the rod or the wheel electrode) and an electrode taken as a reference. The reference
electrode used is a saturated calomel electrode for laboratory purposes.
1. Fill the electrode to be tested with copper sulfate as described in this manual.
2. Connect the reference electrode to the Ground cable - Input (orange cable) of the
PM8500 Sensor Unit.
3. Connect either the rod or the wheel electrode to the Electrode - Input (blue cable).
4. Put both probes together to close the electrical circuit. Recommendation for wheel
electrodes: measure direct on the wooden spigot (copper sulphate side).
