Connecting Cryogenic Cooling and Purge Gas Lines

Cryogenic Cooling

Connect the end of the liquid nitrogen inlet hose Swagelok® fitting to the CRYOGENIC COOLANT
INLET fitting on the back of the EM and connect the other end to the liquid port on the liquid nitrogen
dewar.

Connect the plug from the liquid nitrogen inlet hose to the CRYOGENIC VALVE CONTROL
receptacle on the back of the EM.

Connect one end of the liquid nitrogen outlet hose with Swagelok fitting to the CRYOGENIC
COOLANT OUTLET fitting on the back of the EM and connect the other end to the Swagelok fitting
on the liquid nitrogen exhaust container.
NOTE: Remember to open the valve on the liquid port on the liquid nitrogen dewar.
Purge Gas

Insert the 1/8-inch tube into the PURGE GAS INLET fitting on the back of the EM. Connect the other
end of the hose to the inert gas supply.

Close the PURGE GAS FLOW needle valve and turn the CORE PURGE and CHAMBER BACK-
FILL valves to the OFF position on the side of the EM.

Open the inert gas supply unit.

Check all gas lines and connections for leakage.

Installing the Tray

Unlock the latch on both sides of the Detector Assembly and raise the Assembly up away from the EM.
Then swing the Detector Head to the left, away from the furnace.
