City Box Connection Using the 5220 Module

This section describes how to connect the control panel to a local energy municipal fire alarm box or "city box"
as required by NFPA 72 Auxiliary Protected Fire Alarm systems for fire alarm service. The city (master) box is
an enclosure that contains a manually operated transmitter used to send an alarm to the municipal
communication center which houses the central operating part of the fire alarm system.
City Box Standby Current: 0 (Notification supervision current accounted for in control panel draw.)
Alarm Current:1 Amp for 1 second 27.2 VDC max. The maximum coil and wire resistance (combined) must not
exceed 30 ohms.
To install the 5220 for city box connection:
1.
Use one of the knockouts on the right side of the control panel to connect the 5220 using a short piece of
conduit (must not exceed 20 feet in length).
2.
Wire the 5220 to the control panel as shown in Figure 4-43. This drawing also shows how to connect the city
box coil to terminals 3 and 4 on the 5220. Do not install an EOL resistor in the terminals of the Flexput cir-
cuit used for this
application.
3.
Connect earth ground wire to the 5220 chassis with mounting screw.
4.
Program the Flexput circuit as a notification circuit, Refer to Section 9.5.2. Assign this Flexput to an output
group that is mapped to activate with non silenceable constant output in response to a system general alarm
condition.
It is not possible to reset the remote indication until you clear the condition and reset the control panel.
All circuits off the 5220 are
non- power limited and
all wiring is non-supervised.
The wiring off the main control
is still power limited and supervised.
