5.3 SHEAR VALVE INSTALLATION
DANGER:
SHEAR VALVES ARE TO BE INSTALLED WITH THE SHEAR SECTION IN LINE WITH
THE SURFACE OF THE ISLAND, WITHIN + ¾" DEPENDING ON THE VALVE TO BE
USED. A LONGER OR SHORTER INLET NIPPLE MAY BE REQUIRED.
DANGER:
FAILURE TO INSTALL THE SHEAR VALVES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO PROPERTY,
INJURY OR DEATH.
•
An approved shear valve will close
automatically in cases of severe
impact or fire exposure, see Figure
5.2.
•
The shear valve will also permit safe
inspection and maintenance.
Note: Switch all breakers OFF at the
breaker panel prior to any
maintenance.
Product inlet locations and dimensions are
on the
footprint drawings
Listed ground joint unions must be installed between shear sections of shear valves and dispenser inlets.
If rigid product inlet pipes are used, they must be plumbed so no strain is exerted on the dispenser
chassis caused by tightening down the unions.
For dispensers used with companion satellites, follow all federal, state, and local codes regarding
installation of impact valves.
5.4 SUCTION PUMP CHECK VALVE INSTALLATION
Note: For self-contained (suction) pumps only.
•
A vertical check valve is required to be installed under each pump's ground joint union.
•
The vertical check valve ensures that the pump's hydraulic system remains full of product, and it
is necessary to maintain the "prime" of the suction line so that liquid product does not drain
back to the tank.
•
Follow all instructions contained in the vertical check valve's installation manual and observe all
local codes.
