Administrative tasks

Use the Mobile Communication Gateway 3100 Server Web-based tool,
called the MCG 3100 Web Console, to perform the following administrative
tasks:
System configuration
Install all Nortel Mobile Communication 3100 Series Portfolio software
components (Mobile Communication Gateway Server, Group Call Server,
Group Call Database, and Administration Server) on a single supported
COTS server. You can then integrate the server into the enterprise network
behind the corporate firewall.
If two supported COTS servers are available, configure them with identical
software components. This configuration strategy provides redundancy. If
a server component fails or becomes inaccessible, users can restart their
communication sessions on the backup system.

Network protocols

The Mobile Communication Gateway 3100 Server uses the following
standard signaling protocols to communicate with the system components:

monitor the Mobile Communication Gateway 3100 Server processes
start, stop, and reboot the server
configure the server operating parameters
monitor and track statistics for users
track statistics for the enterprise system
manage the distribution of client software to enterprise mobile clients

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)—transports feature messages such as
call setup, routing, and authentication to Internet Protocol (IP) endpoints
within the domain.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)—used by the Mobile Communication
Gateway and wireless clients to transfer documents over the Internet.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption
(HTTPS)—used for secure communication over the Internet.
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)—used to access a
hierarchical directory of information on a directory server.
Transport Layer Security (TLS)—prevents intrusion attacks, such as
hijacking and snooping.
