The Water Sensor package is constructed of UV-resistant ABS plastic allowing for indoor or sheltered outdoor use. The sensor should be mounted in an upright
position, with the antenna pointing upward. The sensor should be mounted so that the LED lamp (located on the front side of the sensor) is visible. The lamp
flashes when the sensor is communicating with the Motorola controller. The sensor cable should be positioned to place the sensor element in contact with an
area that you want to monitor for wetness or dryness. The cable should be supported with tape or clips to a wall, pipe, or other fixed object, in order to keep the
sensor element in the desired position.
A hardware kit (provided with the sensor) provides several mounting options. A double-sided tape strip is provided for the sensor body. The tape strip can be used
to affix the back of the sensor to a wall, door, or other flat-sided object. Simply peel off the backing paper from one side, mount the tape strip on the back of the
sensor, then peel off the remaining backing paper and press the sensor against the mounting surface.
You can also mount the sensor more securely using the screws in the hardware kit. Using the drilling template (located on the back of the installation instruction
sheet), drill two small holes for the screws. Affix the screws to any object, leaving 1/16" space between the screw head and the object. Mount the sensor onto the
screws and slide down to lock into place.
The Water Sensor should not be installed on metal doors, metal door or window frames, or on or inside of metal objects. The discovery button is accessible from
the back side of the sensor, so it will be most convenient for you to register the sensor with your homesight Software before mounting the sensor.
Battery Operation
The Water Sensor is battery-operated. Two AAA alkaline batteries power the sensor. The battery compartment is located on the bottom edge of the sensor. To
open the battery compartment, slide the battery compartment door in the direction indicated by the arrow (located on the door).
Make sure that the batteries are inserted with the proper polarity. The outermost battery must be inserted with the positive (+) tip pointing downward (towards the
battery compartment door), while the innermost battery must be inserted with the negative (-) end pointing downward. The + sign engraved on the metal strip
inside of the battery compartment door must contact the + terminal of the battery when the door is closed.
The Water Sensor has built-in power-saver technology to prolong the battery life. Battery lifetime will depend on actual use and how often the sensor is triggered.
A fresh set of batteries is expected to last up to 12 months. You can check the sensor's battery state by looking at the device list on the device overview page of
the homesight Software.
