REPLACING THE VARISTOR
ON THE PC BOARD
Part #502190
Included with the Replacement Kit:
• Varistor
Additional Supplies Required:
• Phillips Screwdriver
• Slotted Screwdriver (smaller than 1/8")
• Six-pin Jumper* (Used for REMstar Choice LS repair only)
• Vacuum type desoldering tool
• Solder: "44" Rosin Core (60% tin; 40% Lead)
• Soldering Iron with temperature control
WARNING:
Electrical Shock Hazard: Disconnect the electrical supply before making repairs to the unit.
CAUTION:
Electronic components used in this unit are subject to damage by static electricity. Use proper
static discharge and grounding precautions when servicing the equipment.
NOTE:
Before attempting this repair, check that the PC board is not damaged (i.e., no burn marks,
solder pads are not lifted, no other components are damaged).
STEP 1
Desolder the Varistor, either VR1 or RV1
(both are located in the same place on the
PC board) and remove.
NOTE:
If the PC board is damaged during
the removal process, discard and
replace with a new PC board.
STEP 2
Orient and fit the new varistor into the
PC board.
STEP 3
Solder the varistor to the PC board
(the heat setting of the soldering iron must
not exceed 675° Fahrenheit).
