Tiberius
Tunable Femtosecond Ti:Sapphire Laser
4.2.
Disassembly
Follow these instructions if the laser is being moved or if some of the equipment is being removed for storage or
replacement. Multiple components or the entire system can be moved together, in which case, discretion can be
used as to how much is disconnected or shut down (e.g. if the system is running on a high capacity battery
backup). Regardless of how much is disconnected or shut down, it is recommended that these instructions be
read in their entirety.
1. Turn off emission.
2. Power down the Tiberius Controller and the Pump Laser Controller.
3. If the chiller is being moved, power it down then disconnect the coolant lines. The fittings contain internal
valves that will close when the fitting is disconnected, but a towel should be used to catch any small drips.
Note that the coolant lines and connections are color coded.
Even if the chiller is the only component being removed, make sure the Tiberius is powered down
first. Operating the laser without the chiller can cause severe and permanent damage.
If the recommended coolant was used, it does not need to be drained from the chiller, the lines, or the
laser head. If any other coolant was used, drain it if appropriate. The Tiberius and its components
should not be stored at extreme temperatures, but in the event that they are stored below freezing,
incorrect coolants may freeze and cause permanent damage.
4. If the PACU is being moved, power it down and disconnect the purging lines from the Tiberius Laser
Head. The valved fittings will keep the Tiberius cavity and PACU lines sealed.
If the laser is being shut down for long term storage, the PACU should still be connected,
operated, and checked occasionally. This will prolong the life of the internal optics and other
components.
5. Disconnect all of the necessary electrical cables, including AC power cables, the 44-pin cable between
the Tiberius Controller and Tiberius Laser Head, USB cables, and the RJ45 cable between the Tiberius
Controller and the Pump Laser Controller. The armored cable between the Pump Laser Controller
and the Tiberius Laser Head is permanently attached at both ends. No attempt should be made to
disconnect it.
6. Loosen the three clamps holding the Tiberius Laser Head to the table.
7. The Tiberius is shipped with an end cap threaded on to the output port of the Tiberius Laser Head. This
cap is for protection of the shutter and output window. If the end cap is available and the laser is being
stored for an extended time, install it on the output port. If the end cap is not available and protection of
the shutter and window is desired, a similar component with a Thorlabs SM05 thread can be installed.

Make sure the end cap is removed before restarting the laser.
