9. Allow all the ribbon to accumulate on left spool. On right ribbon guide (12) momentarily
short across skids (13).
10. Perform step 8 for right ribbon guide. Allow all ribbon to run through guide and accumu
late on right spool.
11. Repeat steps 7 through 10 and readjust as necessary.
12. Set POWER to OFF. Connect J4 (5) on power supply PCBA (6).
13. Close front cover (3). Close rear door (2). Engage and tighten two fasteners (1).
5-5. Shuttle Spring Force Adjustment (Figure 5-3)
NOTE: Perform this procedure if excessive rattle is detected under the cam
cover. If this procedure fails to correct the problem, set shuttle and counter
weight preload per paragraph 5-6.
1. Open front cover (1).
2. Loosen two screws (2).
3. Remove cam cover (3) and attached gasket (4).
4. Inspect area around shuttle spring (5) and counterweight spring (6) for shims that may
have broken or come loose. Replace any loose shims per steps 7 and 8 below.
5. Set POWER to ON. Press ON LINE switch so shuttle operates. Cycle ON LINE as neces
sary to keep shuttle moving.
6. Apply heavy pressure to right side of counterweight (7) and check for rattle.
(a) If rattle does not change, add shim against shuttle spring (5) per step 7.
(b) If rattle decreases, add shim against counterweight spring (6) per step 8.
7. Install shuttle spring shim (0.01 in) as follows:
Procedures for prying spring away from yoke differ for P6040 and P6080.
Refer to figure.
(a) Set POWER to OFF.
(b) Pry spring (5) away from yoke (8) using screwdriver as shown.
(c) Insert shim (9) and press down until it is flush with yoke (8).
NOTE: More than one shim may be required to obtain desired effect.
