5-25. Hammer Coil (Figure 5-21)
a. Removal, P6080
1. Place ribbon drive in service position per paragraph 3-4c4.
2. Loosen two comb bracket screws (1). Raise comb bracket (2) free of screws (1).
3. Remove hammer coil screw (3).
When manipulating coil and wiring, be careful not to damage other coils
or stress hammers.
4. Gently pull two coil leads (4) from comb (5).
5. Remove four screws (6) from wire clamp (7) holding coil leads (4).
6. Disconnect appropriate coil connector (8).
7. Carefully separate two coil leads (4) from connector (8) as follows:
Do not move connector releasing tabs any more than necessary to remove
leads. Damage to connector will result.
(a) Using X-acto knife or other small tool, gently pry up releasing tab (9).
(b) Withdraw coil lead (4) and its terminal (10).
8. Separate coil (11) from hammer bank (12).
b. Installation, P6080
1. Position coil (11) in hammer bank (12) under hammer spring (13). Make sure shim (14),
which is under hammer spring and adjacent coil, has not shifted or fallen out.
2. Install screw (3) but do not tighten.
3. Align coil (11) relative to adjacent coils and spring (13).
4. Torque screw (3) to 1 to 2 in-lbs.
5. Insert two coil leads (4) into connector (8). Make sure sense of color coding is identical
with other coils, and terminals (10) are locked in.
6. Route coil leads (4) over comb bracket (2) and into slots in comb (5). Adjust path of leads
so service loop matches that of other leads.
