5-9. Platen Gap

7. If platen (7) gap is incorrect:
(a) Adjust two support bolts (9) as required. Note that 1/4 turn equals about 0.007
inch.
(b) Repeat steps 5 through 7.
8. Raise Forms Thickness Lever to open position.
NOTE: Steps 9 and 10 apply to P6080 only.
9. Slip a piece of paper between paper ironer (10) and hammer tips (8).
10. Carefully slip hammer bank cover (3) between piece of paper and hammer tips (8). Posi
tion on dowel pins (5). Remove paper.
11. Put ribbon drive in operating position per paragraph 3-4c9.
12. Install paper. Close front cover (2). Connect power cord (1).
5-10. Magnetic Pickup Gap (Figure 5-8)
NOTE: Unless otherwise directed, gap adjustment should be followed by
phasing adjustment, paragraph 5-11.
1. Gain access to MPU by performing steps 1 through 4 of paragraph 5-26.
2. Remove covers per paragraph 5-17a.
3. Loosen screw (1) until MPU (2) can be rotated.
4. Set gap between MPU (2) and timing disk (3) using 0.010 inch flat feeler gauge (4).
5. Tighten screw (1). Verify MPU (2) does not rotate.
Do not operate printer if MPU can be rotated. Damage to timing disk will
occur if MPU contacts timing disk.
NOTE: Steps 6 and 7 below may be performed as an additional check if de
sired.
6. Connect oscilloscope between pin 2 of terminal strip (5) and chassis ground. Operate
printer.
7. Verify amplitude of scope trace is between 2.0 and 3.5 Volts peak to peak and waveform is
as shown in figure. Verify the entire envelope (two resyncs) is smooth and consistent.
