130 Driving and parking
The function is available in the speed range
between 40 mph (60 km/h) and 125 mph
(200 km/h).
The warning is issued when the following condi‐
tions are met at the same time:
If Lane Keeping Assist detects lane markings.
R
If a front wheel drives over lane markings.
R
In order that you are warned only when neces‐
sary and in good time if you cross the lane mark‐
ing, the system differentiates between various
conditions and warns you accordingly.
The warning vibration occurs earlier under the
following conditions:
you approach the outer lane marking on a
R
curve.
the road has very wide lanes, e.g. a freeway.
R
the system detects solid lane markings.
R
The warning vibration occurs later under the fol‐
lowing conditions:
you are driving on a road with narrow lanes.
R
you cut the corner on a curve.
R

You may also be warned by a vibration in the
steering wheel (4x2 version) or by a warning
tone (4x4 version) and the status symbol
flashing in the Instrument Display.
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
in the following situations:
If there is poor visibility, e.g. due to insuffi‐
R
cient illumination of the road, if there are
highly variable shade conditions or in rain,
snow, fog or spray.
Glare from oncoming traffic, direct sunlight or
R
reflections.
There is dirt on the windshield in the vicinity
R
of the multifunction camera or the camera is
fogged up, damaged or obscured.
There are no or several ambiguous lane mark‐
R
ings for one lane, e.g. in the vicinity of con‐
struction sites.
If the lane markings are worn away, dark or
R
covered up.
If the distance to the vehicle in front is too
R
short and thus the lane markings cannot be
detected.
The lane markings change quickly, e.g. lanes
R
branch off, cross one another or merge.
The road is very narrow and winding.
R
Activating/deactivating Lane Keeping Assist
Press the Ç button.

If the indicator lamp in the button lights up
and the multifunction display shows the Ç
symbol in the status area, Lane Keeping
Assist is activated but not ready for use.
If you are driving with Lane Keeping Assist
activated at speeds above 40 mph (60 km/h)
and lane markings are detected, the multi‐
function display shows the Ç symbol high‐
lighted in the status area. Lane Keeping
Assist is then ready for use.

In the
Standard
setting, no warning vibration
occurs in the following situations:
You operate the turn signal in the correspond‐

ing direction. In this event, the warnings are
suppressed for a certain period of time.
A driving safety system, such as ABS, BAS or
R
ESP
®
, intervenes or performs a control
action.
In the
Adaptive
setting, there will also be no
warning vibration in the following situations:
you accelerate hard, e.g. kickdown.
R
you brake hard.
R
setting.
