Communications protocol typically used to connect the reader directly to a computer
or terminal. Data sent by the reader is followed by a carriage return and line feed (CR
LF). XON/XOFF is supported. Point-to-Point protocol characters cannot be modified;
however, the transmission parameters, such as parity and data bits, can be modified.

Widely recognized protocol standard for serial binary data interchange. The standard
covers the physical, electrical, and functional characteristics of the interface. RS-232
is the standard American format for serial data transmission by cable (that is, from a
computer terminal to a modem). RS-232 transmission uses a distinctive 25-pin
connector, although in most cases not all of the conductors are used (see serial port).
