Checking the coolant level
WARNING!
Do not open the coolant filler cap when the engine is
hot. Steam or hot fluid could spray out, causing severe
burns.
The engine is equipped with a level switch for coolant
as standard.
When engine is cold the coolant level must be visible
at the lower edge of the filler neck on the expansion
tank (1).
If a separate expansion tank is installed, the coolant
level must be between the MAX and MIN markings. Fill
according to section Filling with coolant.
Filling with coolant
WARNING!
Burn hazard. Steam and hot fluid may spray out. Stop
the engine and allow it to cool before opening the filler
cap.
IMPORTANT!
Top up with the same type of coolant as already used
in the system. Different types of coolant must not be
mixed.
Topping up
1 Fill coolant up to the lower edge of the filler neck.
2 Fill slowly so that the evacuated air is able to pass
through the filler opening.
Filling a empty cooling system
1 Open the vent tap by the charged air cooler.
2 Make sure any other systems such as heater, water
heater, etc., connected to the cooling system are
also ventilated.
3 Fill with coolant via the filler opening on the
expansion tank. Fill slowly so that the evacuated air
is able to pass through the ventilation cock/cocks
and the filler opening.
4 Close the ventilation cocks/cocks as coolant that is
free from air runs out of them.
5 Cease filling when the correct level is attained.
6 Start the engine and run it until it reaches operating
temperature.
IMPORTANT!
The engine must not be started before the system
has been bled and filled.
7 Stop the engine and allow it to cool down. Check
the coolant level
8 Top up if needed.
