BMID

3.2.1

Locating the BMID

The BMID is mounted directly to the battery pack in the fast-charge-ready vehicle.
3.2.2

Basic Operation

The BMID monitors battery voltage and temperature and communicates with the DVS via the
DATA and DIRECTION lines in the charge cable. The BMID derives its power directly from the
vehic le battery and interfaces with a thermistor to monitor battery temperature. The BMID is
programmed for each battery type and capacity.

Troubleshooting Guide

There are three types of failures associated with the BMID. Only one of these, (c), is a true
BMID failure. The other two are caused by miswiring, (b), and an incorrectly programmed
BMID, (a). Before removing a BMID, check that the BMID has power and that all wiring
interfaces have continuity from the BMID to the control board in the PowerStation cabinet.
Refer to appropriate sections of the PowerStation/Power Server Installation Manual, WCSI
document 06827-03 for wiring details.
a. The BMID is operational but an error message involving the BMID is observed on the DVS
display panel. In this case the BMID is either programmed incorrectly for the battery or the
voltage measured by the BMID is inconsistent with the voltage measured at the PowerStation.
Using the Advanced features and BMID programming manual (WCSI document #06871-03),
verify that the BMID is programmed appropriately for the battery pack.
b. The BMID is operational but cannot communicate with the DVS. Verify that the BMID
wiring is correct.
c. The BMID does not operate at all and cannot communicate with the DVS. If the wiring is
correct and you still cannot communicate with the BMID from the DVS, the BMID must be
replaced.
