Chapter 1 Introducing DN912

1.1 Functions and Features of the DN912

This section describes the features of the DeviceNet module (DN912) for the unified controller nv series
type1. DN912 is an interface module for connecting DeviceNet, one of the FA device level networks, to the
unified controller nv series.
(1) DeviceNet compliant
DeviceNet has been standardized by Rockwell Automation in the United States as a device-level network for
factory automation. Currently, a non-profit organization called ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendor Association)
plays a leading role in maintaining and expanding DeviceNet specifications and introducing compatible
products.
DN912 is an interface between the controller and slave devices that enables the nv series controller to input /
output data as a master device on this DeviceNet with DeviceNet-compliant slave devices developed by
various manufacturers.
(2) Input / output data volume, number of connected slave devices, data speed and network length
One DeviceNet network can be connected to DN912. The amount of data that can be input / output between
the DN912 and the connected slave device is 378 words for input and 378 words for output (1 word = 16
bits). As long as the total number of output data and input data to connected slave devices does not exceed
128 words, data can be input / output with up to 63 slave devices. The data amount output to the slave
device and the data amount input from the slave device differ depending on the slave device. Check the
specifications of the slave device.
The definition of output data / input data handled in this document is as shown in the figure below.

(3) Data input / output method
The DN912 supports the "poll command / response" and "bit strobe command / response" specified by the
DeviceNet standard as a method for inputting / outputting data with slave devices.
The details of "poll command / response" and "bit strobe command / response" are described in "1.5 Basic
Functions".
Important
- DN912 cannot be used in duplicate.
- Use the Anybus Configuration Manager for DeviceNet manufactured by HMS to configure the DeviceNet
device connected to DN912.
