12 MAINTENANCE

The Elcometer 6014 Shade and Opacity Meter is designed to give many years reliable service under normal
operating and storage conditions.
Regular calibration checks over the life of the gauge and the certified
calibration tile are a requirement of quality management procedures, e.g.
ISO 9000, and other similar standards. When the gauge is switched on
the date of last certification is displayed on the screen. For checks and
certification contact your local Elcometer supplier.
The gauge does not contain any user-serviceable components. In the unlikely event of a fault, the Elcometer
6014 should be returned to your local Elcometer supplier or directly to Elcometer. Contact details can be
found on the outside cover of these instructions, or on the Elcometer website, www.elcometer.com
12.1 MAINTAINING YOUR CALIBRATION TILES
The tiles should be checked on a regular basis to ensure that they are clean and in good condition. If
necessary a tile may be wiped with a cloth moistened with warm soapy water and dried with a lint-free cloth.
Marks on the surface of the white tile should be removed by scraping carefully the surface of the tile using
a scalpel. For accurate calibration, a flat surface must be maintained. If the tile is damaged with deep
scratches, a replacement tile must be purchased.
It is important that a calibration tile has an up-to-date certificate and the normal renewal period is 12 months.
However, it should be noted that if successive calibration certificates give the same value for the tile,
extension of the renewal period to 24 months is permitted.
