3.1 Before Use

If an IP needs to be erased without being subjected to scanning on account of a failed exposure or the
like, perform "image erasure" on the IP. Furthermore, IPs that are going to be used for the first time on
a given day, perform "image erasure" on them before use in order to prevent image degradation.

3.1.1 Performing Image Erasure

An "over-exposed" or "incorrectly exposed" IP should
be subjected to "image erasure" without fail. In addi-
tion, if an IP that is going to be used for radiographing
work has not been used yet on the day, it is necessary
to perform image erasure on that IP.
The objective of the image erasure is to dissipate any
excess energy the IP has accumulated, immediately
before making a radiographic exposure. Even when
3
the IP is stored in a room, it absorbs and accumulates
natural radiation such as cosmic rays and radiation
energy emanating from radioisotopes contained in
construction materials such as those used for floors
and walls. If such an energy-loaded IP is used as-is,
image degradation may result. By using the following
procedure, perform the erasure of the image on the IP.
1
Press [Erase] on the "Initial screen."
The "Erase image?" window appears.
2
Press the [Execute] button.
A message will appear.
3-2
3
Insert a cassette.
Image erasure is performed.
Upon completion of the image erasure, a message
will appear.
4
Take the cassette out.
The image erasure session is complete and it
automatically return to the "Initial screen."
