Chapter 4 Preparation and Inspection
(1) If a water (irrigation) pump is not connected, attach a sterile syringe filled with sterile water to
the J tube.
(2) Feed sterile water from the water pump or sterile syringe and check that sterile water comes out
from the water jet nozzle.
Note
 Note the direction in which sterile water comes out. Water should flow directly over the
objective lens.
 Be sure that no abnormalities such as swelling of J tube are found and that no sterile water
leaks out from the connecting parts.
(3) Stop feeding sterile water, and detach the tubing of the water pump or sterile syringe.
Note
 Do not detach the J tube.
(4) Be sure that no sterile water drips out of the J tube.
Note
 When inspected before use, if more than one drop of water drips from the tube during a
15-second check, replace the J tube with a new one, and repeat above procedures (1)
through (4).
 The J tube is equipped with a check-valve to prevent water from dripping out of the water
jet channel after detachment of the single-use irrigation system. Use the J tube only with a
single-use check-valve or irrigation system which includes a check-valve to prevent
backflow to the irrigation components and water source.
 Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of water pump regarding the
frequency of changing sterile water and all components (tubing, connectors, water tank,
etc.).
(5) Connect the tubing of the water pump to the J tube.
