When manually placing cartridge tapes in storage cells, be sure the cartridge is right side
up (writing on top) with the VOLSER label facing out, as shown in Figure 3-11.

Mounting a Cartridge into a Drive

To manually mount a cartridge tape into a DLT drive, the load latch must be UP , which
indicates the drive is open. The drive hub should be retracted when the load latch is up,
allowing a cartridge to slide into the opening. Figure 3-12 shows the front of a DLT drive
with the load latch DOWN (drive closed—loaded position) and the load latch UP (drive
open—unloaded position).
