    The PowerVault 130T is a self-contained, fully automated cartridge system that can accommodate up to four digital linear tape (DLT) drives. The PowerVault 130T uses a small computer system interface (SCSI) library command set and attaches directly to the SCSI bus.

  • Page 17 Removable Five-Cell Cartridge Magazine A removable five-cell cartridge magazine is included with the PowerVault 130T . This can be easily taken out, loaded with batch jobs or special applications, and replaced in the library whenever it is required.
  • Page 18 Storage Cells The PowerVault 130T contains storage cells for 28 to 30 CompacTape IV tape cartridges. CompacTape III and IIIXT are also supported, although they have a lesser capacity. With four drives installed, 28 cartridges is the maximum.

Using a diagonal wire cutter, cut and discard the two tie wraps that hold the hand assembly cushion and the counterweight cushion. Figure 2-2 shows the locations of the tie wraps and cushions.

    Open the hinged access door. Look inside the PowerVault 130T for broken or loose parts. Use a flashlight if necessary. Verify that the serial number of the PowerVault 130T (located on the rear panel) matches the shipping invoice.
  • Page 29 Connect one end of the Library to Drive SCSI cable to drive 0 and the other end of the cable to the SCSI port on the library electronics module. Refer to Figure 2-3. Connect a SCSI daisy-chain cable from drive 0 to drive 1. Install the SCSI terminator on the remaining SCSI connector of the last drive.

    Completing the installation of the library Installing the Cartridge Tapes in the Library The library has storage cells for 30 cartridge tapes unless four drives are installed, which reduces the number to 28. Five of the storage cells are contained in a removable magazine.

    PowerVault 130T Power Switch Power Switch When the PowerVault 130T is powered on or reset, it performs a complete diagnostic routine and a tape audit. If the front door is opened and closed while power is on, the library performs the same routines (except realigning to the cells). During these operations, the library displays its current activity on the operator panel display.

    C H A P T E R 3 Operating the PowerVault 130T The PowerVault 130T Library operator panel includes a four-line 20-character per line, backlit display for viewing library and DLT drive status. The operator panel also includes five function buttons and three light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The function buttons allow access to all of the menus, status displays, machine diagnostics, and error information available for the DLT Library.

    Examine Fault Symptom Codes Fault Symptom Codes (FSCs) are four hexadecimal digits that identify an error in the system. The Examine FSCs menu option allows the operator to view the last 20 fault symptom codes. Use the arrow buttons to scroll the lines of the display. An example of the FSC display is shown below.

    Leave cartridges in their protective wrapping. (When using a cartridge, remove its wrapping using the tear string, not sharp instruments.) • Make sure the storage environment is clean and conditions equivalent to the PowerVault 130T operating environment. • Before using tapes, keep them in their operating environment for 24 hours.
