Risk of accident
If BAS has malfunctioned, the braking sys-
tem remains available with full brake boost-
ing effect. However, braking force is not
automatically increased in emergency brak-
ing situations and the stopping distance
may increase.

ESP
(Electronic Stability Program)

ESP
monitors driving stability and trac-
tion, i.e. power transmission between the
tyres and the road surface.
®
ESP
detects when a wheel starts to spin
or the vehicle enters a skid. ESP
es the vehicle by braking individual wheels,
limiting the engine power output, and as-
sists you when pulling away on wet or slip-
®
pery road surfaces. ESP
also stabilises
the vehicle when braking.
ESP

activation is indicated by the
v ABS/ESP
®
warning lamp flashing in
the speedometer.

Proceed as follows, if the v ABS/ESP
warning lamp flashes in the speedometer:
do not deactivate ESP
®
stabilis-
only depress the accelerator pedal as
far as necessary when pulling away
accelerate less when driving
adapt your driving style to suit road and
traffic conditions
Otherwise, the vehicle could begin to skid.

cannot reduce the risk of an accident
if you drive too fast. ESP
