Ensure that you raise any reliability issues with Standard Bank.
When performing a magnetic strip card transaction, ensure that the customer signs
the merchant receipt copy. This receipt must be kept as proof of purchase to refute any
chargebacks from the cardholder. All merchants must retain receipts for at least six months
in the event of chargebacks.
SPEED OF TRANSACTIONS
Speed of transactions may vary and depend on the following:
Type of telecommunication infrastructure (i.e. GPRS, landline etc.)
POS device integration (whether the till generates the amount directly or you must
manually enter the amount on the POS device)
An end-to-end transaction should take no more than 30 seconds to perform (including PIN
entry where applicable) and less than 10 seconds when using a GPRS POS device.
REDUCING REQUESTS FOR COPY
Customers should be able to recognise transactions undertaken at your outlet on their
bank statements. Make sure your trading name is accurate and legible on your transaction
receipts, but that it doesn't interfere with the transaction details.
MANUAL TRANSACTIONS
Note: when a card is swiped, the customer and card details are automatically recorded.
A manual transaction or 'manual card entry' transaction is when you manually enter the
card information into the POS device using the supervisor PIN (instead of swiping or
inserting the card into the POS device). If you process these transactions, ensure that you
take an imprint of the card using the provided Standard Bank Merchant Solutions manual
imprinter booklet found in the POS device welcome box.
If you must complete a manual transaction, make sure to do the following:
Pay special attention to the security features on the card
Make a clear and legible imprint of the card using the provided Standard Bank Merchant
Solutions manual imprinter booklet and write all the required information on the manual
voucher slip
Only Standard Bank issued imprint booklets may be used to imprint cards; tally rolls or
any other documentation may not be used for imprinting
Write the non-embossed four-digit number underneath the imprinted number on the slip;
these numbers must be the same
