3.5 Automatic Motor Adaptation

Automatic motor adaptation (AMA) is a test procedure that
measures the electrical characteristics of the motor to
optimize compatibility between the adjustable frequency
drive and the motor.
The adjustable frequency drive builds a
mathematical model of the motor for regulating
output motor current. The procedure also tests
the input phase balance of electrical power. It
compares the motor characteristics with the data
entered in parameters 1-20 to 1-25.
The motor shaft does not turn and no harm is
done to the motor while running the AMA.
Some motors may be unable to run the complete
version of the test. In that case, select [2] Enable
reduced AMA.
If an output filter is connected to the motor,
select Enable reduced AMA.
If warnings or alarms occur, see
chapter 8 Warnings and Alarms.
Run this procedure on a cold motor for best
results.

3.6 PM Motor Set-up in VVC
CAUTION
Use only a PM motor with fans and pumps.
Initial Programming Steps
1.
Activate PM motor operation 1-10 Motor
Construction, select [1) PM, non-salient SPM
2.
Make sure to set 0-02 Motor Speed Unit to [0] RPM
Programming motor data
After selecting PM motor in 1-10 Motor Construction, the
PM motor-related parameters in parameter groups 1-2*
Motor Data, 1-3* Adv. Motor Data and 1-4* are active.
The information can be found on the motor nameplate
and in the motor data sheet.
The following parameters must be programmed in the
listed order:
1.
1-24 Motor Current.
2.
1-26 Motor Cont. Rated Torque.
3.
1-25 Motor Nominal Speed.
4.
1-39 Motor Poles.
5.
1-30 Stator Resistance (Rs).
Enter line to common stator winding resistance
(Rs). If only line-line data are available, divide the
line-line value by 2 to achieve the line to
common (starpoint) value.
