6.5 The Dual Grip Roller

Typically a vinyl cutter grips and feeds the media using a 'PINCH' roller system situated
behind the Tool Carriage position. This means the rear of the sheet would not be held
by the grip roller during cutting therefore typical cutters can not cut within 30mm (1" 1/4)
of the rear of the sheet. HOWEVER, to solve this problem the SC5000 is fi tted with an
advanced DUAL GRIP roller system to maximise cutting area and to enable the SC5000
to cut closer to the rear and front edge of your media than any other X-Axis cutter.
The main (MASTER) grip roller is the REAR GRIP roller, (and is the most accurate) grip
roller that holds and drives your media backwards and forwards during registration or
cutting. The SC5000 is also confi gured with a supplemental slave grip roller at the front
of the cutter (So the media is gripped either side of the cutting head). This Front Roller,
works as a SLAVE to the main roller and this combination of feed rollers is known as the
Dual Grip Rollers.
Please be aware; when the cutter scans the registration marks, the MOST
ACCURATE cut is achieved when the rear grip (MASTER) rollers grip the
sheet during scanning of all 4 marks, as any calculations for ALL cut lines
are done after scanning the marks. Please refer to the SC5000 ColorCut
Pro manual for further details, on PageMark placement on your design for
the optimum results.
From time to time, it may be necessary to LIFT, or REMOVE the dual grip rollers to
assist in cleaning or removing media from under the rollers when elements have
fallen out of your cut sheet due to insuffi cient TAGs. It is also necessary to remove
the FRONT Grip roller when changing your cutting strip. Therefore please follow
the guide below showing how to release pressure on the rollers for simply lifting
them to remove debris or removing them completely.
