Ribbon is required wit h t herm al t ransfer m edia. I t is recom m ended t hat t he widt h of t he ribbon be
slight ly wider t han t he m edia being used. The print er can use eit her ribbons wit h t he 'coat ing side
in' or ribbons wit h t he 'coat ing side out '. To load:
Using a ribbon t hat is slight ly wider t han your m edia ( and liner, if any) will help prot ect against
print head wear.
The 'Media Type' set t ing wit hin t he print er's set up m ust be set t o 'Therm al Transfer' t o print
using ribbon. This can be accom plished via t he DMXConfig Ut ilit y ( see sect ion 3.4) ; or, if
display- equipped, via t he m enu syst em ( see sect ion 4.5) .

Open t he m edia cover.
Press in on t he Print head
Lat ch and raise t he
print head assem bly.
2. Slide t he Ribbon Roll ont o t he Ribbon Supply Hub unt il it rest s against t he flange. Ensure t he
ribbon unwinds in t he correct direct ion ( see Ribbon Rout ing) . The illust rat ions below depict a
'Coat ed Side I n' ribbon.
Direct ional Arrows near t he Ribbon Supply Hub indicat e t he correct ribbon rout e. Ribbon t ypes
are available wit h t he ink ( coat ing) layer wound 'in' or 'out '. Ensure t he inked side of t he
ribbon faces t he m edia and NOT t he print head.
