• Personal Computer with I/O Libraries Suite (Windows 2000/XP).

How to update E4981A firmware using USB/GPIB interface

The following is the procedure to update the E4981A firmware using USB/GPIB interface.
Step 1. Connect the USB/GPIB interface from the USB terminal in your computer to the GPIB
terminal in the E4981A rear panel. Then turn the E4981A on.
Step 2. Copy the following file from Keysight Technologies web site to the temporary work folder
in your computer's HDD.
• fw_upd.exe
Step 3. Execute the Command Prompt
Step 4. Change the current folder to the temporary working folder with the "fw_upd.exe" file
using command.
cd
Step 5. Enter
fw_upd.exe GPIB0::17::INSTR
The numerical value of "17" in the command is GPIB address of the E4981A. Then, press
the Enter key.
Step 6. Wait a few minutes until the command prompt is displayed again.
Step 7. Press System key on the E4981A front panel to check the firmware revision.
