Chapter 4 – IPT Initialization, Reset and
Auto Registration
IPT Installation Manual July, 2013
The processes described below requires an IP Telephone that is in
factory default mode. If the telephone has been programmed, configured,
or connected to a system it is no longer in default mode. To reset the IPT
to default mode initialize the telephone then unplug the telephone to
remove power before it restarts. Wait 20 seconds then plug the telephone
in. When it has finished the start-up it will be in default mode
Important!
If you initialize the telephone without unplugging it before
it restarts the telephone will not reset to default mode.
The procedure is to initialize the telephone, unplug the
telephone then, plug it in.
When the IPT starts it comes up in Initial Mode. In this mode it will contact
the VIPedge center and look for its serial number.
If the serial number is found it will prompt for the Directory Number (DN).
When a correct DN is entered the telephone will register to the VIPedge
server.
If the serial number is not found it looks for IPedge systems. When the
IPT connects to an IPedge system the phone will prompt for the Directory
Number (DN). If the DN is not found the IPT will restart and look for
another IPedge system. If the DN is found in the IPedge system database
the IPT will register to that system.
This process can take up to a few minutes depending on your networks
configuration.
When the IPT is plugged in the display will show that the IPT is attempting
to connect to the VIPedge server.
