Near-end reflection: Reflection occurring at the junction between OTDR and the connector of the optical
cable. This also includes the internal reflection of the instrument, and the loss and reflection between the
connecting points cannot be detected in the near-end reflective area.
Splice loss: Due to the uneven density of the welded parts or the change of material quality, the increase of
Rayleigh scattering loss results in the welding loss.
Reflection of Connector: There is a small gap in the connecting part
of the connector, and the group refractive index of the gap changes, so
the reflection occurs and causes loss.
Fresnel reflection at the end of the cable: Fresnel reflection occurs
at the breakpoint of the cable or at the position where the group refractive
index changes at the end of the cable (glass and air). When the end face of the optical fiber is vertical, the
power reflection of the incident light is about 3%(-14.7dB).
