Whenever an error is diagnosed in the input information for
the module, the reaction depends on the selected module
operating mode:
With the "Module-based passivation" operating mode
(PAA byte 0, bit 1 = 0) the module passivation is
performed in accordance with the PROFIsafe specification.
For the operating mode "channel-based passivation"
(PAA byte 0, bit 1 = 1), the affected channel bits (Ex, Qx)
in the input image (PAE byte 0 and 1) are set to logic 0.
Module passivation is based on the PROFIsafe specification in
the case of a diagnosed internal module error.
In the case of a massive, stochastic failure of the module
hardware, the PROFIsafe timeout occurs as a system reaction.
The input module can be used for the following tasks:
Connection of various switches and sensors within the
safety chain
Use of multi-channel sensor applications with up to
8 secure inputs, can be grouped and configured with the
aid of 11 different function modes
Use as an input module for a higher-order safety
controller. Multiple input modules can be used together
to monitor sensors independently.
The following overview constitutes a selection and lists some
but not all possible applications.
