out     e ngine     o il.     I f     y our     d ealer   d id     n ot     f ill     t he     o il,
you     m ust     f ill     i t     b efore     s tarting     t he     e ngine.
NOTICE:     C heck     t hat     t he     e ngine     i s     f illed
with     o il     b efore     f irst-time     o peration     t o
avoid     s evere     e ngine     d amage.

sticker,     w hich     s hould     b e     r emoved     a fter     e n-
gine     o il     i s     f illed     f or     t he     f irst     t ime.     F or     m ore     i n-
formation     o n     c hecking     t he     e ngine     o il     l evel,

Breaking     i n     e ngine  
Your     n ew     e ngine     r equires     a     p eriod     o f     b reak-
in     t o   a llow   m ating   s urfaces   o f   m oving   p arts     t o
wear     i n     e venly.     C orrect     b reak-in     w ill     h elp     e n-
sure     p roper     p erformance     a nd     l onger     e ngine
life.     N OTICE:     F ailure     t o     f ollow     t he     b reak-in
procedure     c ould     r esult     i n     r educed     e ngine

Procedure     f or     4 -stroke     m odels
Your     n ew     e ngine     r equires     a     p eriod     o f     1 0
hours     b reak-in     t o     a llow     m ating     s urfaces     o f
moving     p arts     t o     w ear     i n     e venly.
TIP:  
Run     t he     e ngine     i n     t he     w ater,     u nder     l oad     ( in
gear     w ith     a     p ropeller     i nstalled)     a s     f ollows.

Run     t he     e ngine     a t     v arying     s peeds     u p     t o
 
2000     r /min     o r     a pproximately     h alf     t hrottle.
 
2.     F or     t he     s econd     h our     o f     o peration:
 
Increase     e ngine     s peed     a s     m uch     a s     n ec-
 
essary     t o     p ut     t he     b oat     o n     p lane     ( but
 
avoid     f ull-throttle     o peration),     t hen     b ack
 
off     o n     t he     t hrottle     w hile     k eeping     t he     b oat
 
at     a     p laning     s peed.
 
3.     R emaining     8     h ours:
 
Run     t he     e ngine     a t     a ny     s peed.     H owever,
avoid     o perating     a t     f ull     t hrottle     f or     m ore
than     5     m inutes     a t     a     t ime.
4.     A fter     t he     f irst     1 0     h ours:
Operate     t he     e ngine     n ormally.
 
Getting     t o     k now     y our     b oat  
Different     b oats     h andle     d ifferently.     O perate
cautiously     w hile     y ou     l earn     h ow     y our     b oat
handles     u nder     d ifferent     c onditions     a nd     w ith
different     t rim     a ngles     ( see     p age     6 2).
 
 
Checks     b efore     s tarting     e ngine
