Drive Belt Replacement - Lawn-Boy M Series Service Manual

Reinstall woodruff key in keyway of input shaft.
Make sure key
is
installed parallel to shaft.

Install drive belt on transmission pulley
and install pulley onto input shaft. Secure pulley
to input shaft with metric nut and Ultra
Lock
Part No.
388517.
Torque input shaft nut to 250 In.-ibs.

Engage self-propelled drive bail and
check belt clearance in belt guide. Equal dis-
tance should be maintained between belt and
both sides of belt guide. To adjust; loosen belt
guide mounting screws and reposition belt
guide. Tighten mounting screws securely.
NOTE: If rotating pulley contacts belt guide a
shrill noise will be heard when drive bail is
disengaged and excessive belt wear will occur.
DO NOT bend belt guide tabs with
a
screw-
driver, doing so may cause belt to jump off of
input pulley.
Electric Start Models: Reconnect battery
and wire harness connectors prior to install-
ing access cover. Reinstall starter relay.
Make sure wires are not hanging into the
transmission pulley-belt area.
Reinstall rear access door. Tighten mounting
screw securely.
Toque mounting screw to 30 in.-ibs.

DRIVE BELT
REPLACEMENT
The drive belt used on the "M" Series mowers is
a SPECIAL BELT. DO NOT USE A SUBSTI-
TUTE. It won't work
as
WELL or last
as
LONG.

connect spark plug lead.
Remove belt snubber. Route belt be-
tween blade tip and housing. Repeat procedure
for other end of blade.
