4-5 FOLDING/UNFOLDING THE GRAIN DRILL

The grain drill is equipped with hydraulic cylin-
ders to fold and unfold the drill from transport to
field position. A combination of both the fold and lift
hydraulics will be used to fold/unfold the drill.
DANGER
THE G RAIN DRILL SHOULD BE
FOLDED/UNFOLDED ON A LARGE
LEVEL AREA LARGE ENOUGH TO AC-
COMMODATE THE DRILL WHEN UN-
FOLDED. BE SURE OTHER PEOPLE
AND PETS ARE A SAFE DISTANCE
AWAY. TRACTOR SHOULD BE
STOPPED AND NOT MOVING, WITH
THE ENGINE AT A SLOW IDLE.
4-5.1
Before folding/unfolding the drill, pin the
drill hitch to the tractor drawbar (See Section
4-3).
WARNING
THE WINGS WILL GENERATE NEGA-
TIVE TONGUE WEIGHT WHEN THE
UNIT IS UNFOLDED CAUSING THE
HITCH TO RISE SUDDENLY, POSSIBLY
RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR
DEATH. BE SURE THE TRACTOR
DRAWBAR AND SAFETY CHAIN ARE
SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE TRAC-
TOR BEFORE UNFOLDING THE GRAIN
DRILL.
4-5.2
Connect the hydraulic hoses to the trac-
tor remotes.
4-5.3
When unfolding:
a. Remove transport lock pins from telescop-
ing hitch and wing fold locks and place in
storage locations (See Figures 4-2 and 4-3).
b. Fully raise the opener tool bars for maxi-
mum opener clearance.
c. Fully raise the grain drill to relieve pressure
on the main lift transport locks.
d. Watching the transport lock rod over the top
of the main hitch, slowly start to unfold the
drill only until the transport lock rod has fully
extended and the wing brace locking hooks
are down.
e. Lower the unit to the ground, until the hitch
and main lift are fully lowered.
f. Continue to unfold the drill until the wing cyl-
inders have fully extended and the wing brace
locks have engaged.
g. Slowly raise the hitch to level the unit for
field operation. Use the visual reference indi-
cator holes on the front of the hitch to know
when the unit is approximately level.
4-5.4
When folding:
a. Raise the opener tool bar for maximum
opener clearance.
b. Fully lower the hitch.
c. Begin folding the wings inward. The wing
brace lock will move first to release the
tongue braces, then fold the wings in com-
pletely.
d. Fully raise hitch and main lift. Watch to
make sure the wing locks have fully engaged
as the hitch begins to raise.
e. Install transport lock pins in the telescoping
hitch and wing fold locks to secure (See Fig-
ure 4-3).
