4-15 METER/SEED RATE HANDLE ADJUSTMENT

4-15.1
If the seed meter shaft is disassembled
for maintenance or repair the seed meters
and adjustment handle will need to be reset
or zeroed to set the meters equally across
the section.
4-15.2
To reset the meters, reassemble the
seed meter and drive shaft assembly but
leave the locking set collars loose on the
shaft and the seed rate adjustment handle.
a. From the right end of the seed meter and
shaft assembly, lock the very end set collar to
the shaft (See Figure 4-20).
b. Slide the entire shaft assembly to the left, so
the meter sleeve is against the meter hous-
ing, and the end meter is fully opened.
c. Place a clamp next to the bearing to hold
the shaft assembly in place so it does not try
to open.
d. Set the rest of the seed meters, by sliding
the meter sleeve against the meter body,
locking the right set collar.
e. Then slide the meter wheel against the me-
ter sleeve and tighten the left set collar.
4-15.3
When all collars have been set, release
the clamp, and slide the meter shaft assem-
bly to the right to fully close the seed meters.
a. Clamp the shaft in place to hold the meters
closed.
b. Loosen the two mounting bolts that hold the
seed rate adjustment handle assembly to the
bottom of the seed box.
c. Set the seed rate adjustment handle to "0"
and tighten the handle locking nut.
d. Retighten the mounting bolts holding the
handle assembly to the bottom of the seed
box.
e. Remove the clamp.
f. The seed meters and rate adjustment han-
dle should now be reset to zero.
