Mantel Surround Detail

Refer to diagram below for clearance requirements for a mantel surround.
NOTE: If your mantel legs are deeper than 2", you must provide a 1" clearance around the opening of the
fireplace for every additional inch of depth.
LEGEND:
Non-combustible material such as 5/8"
Type X fire rated drywall (or equivalent)
Section Cut
The air flow area must be free from any obstruction to allow heat from the chase to be released.
