Framing Diagrams

The following diagrams show framing dimensions in a flush application. A flush application is not the only permitted
application. The fireplace may be recessed up to 4.5" into the wall. The fireplace may be framed with wood or metal
framing. Refer to diagrams and values below and in the following pages for details.
Wood Framing
5/8" Type X Drywall is required on the
interior (cladding the entire inner
cavity/chase) and exterior of the wood
framing. This provides heat protection
for both the combustible framing and
your finish material.
The first 18" above the top of the
fireplace glass must be metal framing.
This is the minimum and can be made
larger.
Metal Framing
5/8" Type X Drywall is required on the exterior
of the metal framing only. This provides heat
protection for your finish material.
NOTE: The leg height used for calculating
the framing dimensions in the following diagrams is 9-13/16", which will be standard leg height for both double
glass and screen units starting March 2018 with serial #15275 (see page 13 for details on leg height). For framing
diagrams for screen units with a leg height of 8-1/4" manufactured prior to March 2018, please visit our website.
IMPORTANT – Review the "General Clearance Requirements" section before framing to ensure all
clearances are followed.
