Connecting Lines and Extensions
Before continuing, be sure the extension wiring is
complete—refer to "Check for Inside Wiring" earlier in
this appendix for instructions. If the wiring is complete,
follow the steps below.

Test for dial tone at the network interface jacks
A)
(where the lines from the local telephone
company end) before connecting outside
lines to the system modules. For the test,
connect a standard phone to the first network
interface jack.
B)
Lift the handset and listen for dial tone. (If you
do not hear dial tone, contact your local phone
company and ask a representative to check
the service before continuing.)
Repeat for each network interface jack.

A)
Connect line cords to the line jacks on the
module(s), starting with the top line jack on
the first system module.
B)
Continue connecting line cords in numerical
order.
C)
Route each cord through the hook on the lower
front of the module.
D)
Leave at Ieast 2 feet (0.6 meters) of slack in the
cords (for future maintenance so you can
easily reconnect cords after replacing system
modules).

Connect the free end of each line cord to the
appropriate network interface jack.

A)
Test the lines—plug a system phone into extension
10. Press the line buttons for each outside
line and listen for dial tone.
B)
Repeat for extension 16, if you have a 2-module
system.
