S ta rtin g and T u rn in g o ff th e E ng in e
Engage pa rkin g bra ke and m ove the
gear s e le c to r lever in e ith e r " P " o r
" N " p o s itio n b e fore sta rtin g the
engine.
Turn key to s te e rin g lo c k p o s itio n 2.
The cha rge in d ic a to r lam p sh o u ld
co m e on.
Cold Engine
Turn key in ste e rin g lo c k c lo c k w is e to
th e sto p . Do n o t d e p re s s a cc e le ra to r.
Release key o n ly w h en th e e n gine is
firin g regularly.
H o t Engine
Turn key in s te e rin g lo c k c lo c k w is e to
th e s to p . Do n o t d e p re s s a c c e le ra to r.
If th e e n gine has n o t fire d a fte r
ap p ro x. 4 s e co n d s , d e p re s s a c c e le ra ­
to r and c o n tin u e c ra n kin g until the
en gine is firin g regularly. Release key
and ba ck o ff a cc e le ra to r.
A t ve ry high c o o la n t te m p e ra tu re s the
en gine s ta rtin g tim e can be s h o rte n e d
if th e a c c e le ra to r is d e p re s s e d slo w ly
at the b e g in n in g o f the s ta rtin g p ro ­
cess.
Turning off
Turn th e key to s te e rin g lo c k p o s i­
tio n 0, R em ove th e key o n ly w h e n the
v eh icle is s to p p e d .
If th e c o o la n t te m p e ra tu re is ve ry high
(e.g. a fte r hard d rivin g on m ou ntain
roads), do n o t s h u t o ff th e en gine
im m ediately, allow it to run fo r
1 — 2
m in u te s at in cre a se d idle speed.

In a v e ry c o ld en gine th e oil pre s s u re
w ill o n ly rise slo w ly, som e tim e after
the e n gine has s ta rte d . D o n o t speed
up th e e n gine b e fo re pre s s u re is
re g is te re d on th e p re s s u re gauge.
The c h a rg e in d ic a to r lam p s h o u ld go
o u t as soo n as the en gine has started .
